ALL AS ONE: Gathering Paradise
Drop space refers to the temporary universes used to achieve faster-than-light travel. A vessel enters drop space by use of a breakdrive.
The laws of physics differ greatly in drop space. Most significant to interstellar travelers is that gravity is a repulsive force rather than an attractive one. This means that the speed of light is a velocity than which you must always go faster (as opposed to slower). Other fundamental forces of physics are also drastically altered and ultimately impose limitations on the usefulness of drop space. For example, it must be used near a gravity well because the strength of the repulsive gravity within drop space will determine the speed of light which will not only determine the maximum relative speed, but the rate of time as well. This in turn will alter the relationship to the time universe in home space.
Vessels do get irretrievably lost in drop space on occasion.
